At RV Roofing & Building we specialise in Firestone EPDM rubber roofing – one of the most durable and cost-effective flat roofing systems available on the market. Ideal for residential extensions, garages, dormers, porches and even commercial buildings like factories. EPDM is a high-performance and waterproof solution, that delivers reliability for decades.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber membrane that has been used in construction for over 40-years. Unlike older materials such as felt or bitumen, EPDM is installed in large, seamless sheets. Drastically reducing the risk of leaks, and consequently, improving the roof’s long-term performance.
We only use Firestone RubberCover™ EPDM, a globally trusted brand known for exceptional quality and tested under extreme weather conditions. Designed for both residential and commercial buildings, our EPDM materials carry a manufacturers guarantee of 20-years.
At RV Roofing and Building our team are approved installers for Firestone products, this includes Firestone EPDM. Every roof measured carefully to ensure minimal waste and maximum efficiency.
Our process includes:
The result? A sleek, modern roof that is not only weatherproof but also extremely low maintenance.
Excellent repair work and they alerted us to the bad installation of flue pipe through the roof which needed lead covering. They applied lead plate around the pipe and did a great job. Would definitely recommend.
Watertight & Seam-Free. One of the biggest advantages is that it’s laid in one continuous sheet, meaning fewer seams and no weak points for water ingress.
Long Lifespan. Firestone EPDM can last 40-50 years (or more!) with minimal upkeep. It doesn’t crack, blister, or rot like older systems, even under UV exposure.
Low Maintenance. Unlike felt roofs that degrade over time, EPDM is resistant to moss, algae, and temperature extremes, it stays looking good with minimal attention.
Energy Efficient. EPDM has excellent insulation properties, helping retain heat in winter and reflect solar heat in summer, reducing your heating and cooling bills.
Environmentally Friendly. Firestone EPDM is fully recyclable and free from harmful pollutants. Its longevity also reduces the need for replacement materials over time.
Fire Resistant. It’s extremely difficult to ignite and can help reduce the spread of fire across the roof, offering added peace of mind in both residential and commercial settings.
While EPDM isn’t the cheapest material upfront, it offers better value over time thanks to its long lifespan, energy efficiency and low maintenance costs. It’s also quick to install – meaning lower installation charges and less disruption to your home/business.
Because of its clean and minimalist finish, it suits both modern and traditional properties, and pairs well with other materials like slate, tile or metal cladding.
If you’re looking for a durable and modern flat roofing solution (with a clean architectural finish), GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) is an great choice. At RV Roofing & Building, we install high-performance GRP systems across Dorset, trusted by large and small businesses for both upgrades and installations.
This cold-applied system is tough, lightweight, seamless and built to resist the harshest of UK weather (with performance to rival much more expensive systems).
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic, a composite material formed by combining polyester resins with layers of fibreglass matting. Once cured, it forms a rigid, watertight shell that is both highly resilient and low-maintenance.
Originally developed for the marine and aviation industries, GRP has since become one of the most trusted materials for residential flat roofs, balconies, dormers, porches, bay windows and out-houses.
We use only Cromar-approved systems, known for consistency, performance and long lifespan.
Every GRP project starts with a detailed site assessment to check for substrate stability, correct falls and ventilation requirements.
Our installation process includes;
The result is a completely seamless surface, no joins, overlaps or potential weak points. Which also delivers a sleek modern appearance.
Unlike traditional felt or bitumen, GRP is laid in liquid form and cures as a single membrane, eliminating all seams and overlaps.
Properly installed and maintained, GRP roofs can last 30-years or more without splitting, cracking or bubbling.
GRP has a smooth, clean finish with a choice of colours and optional non-slip textures. Suitable for visible surfaces like balconies or terraces.
GRP can handle heavy rain, frost, high winds and intense sun without degrading, peeling or losing shape over time.
This system is installed cold, meaning no open flames or hot works. Ideal for residential and sensitive properties.
GRP requires minimal upkeep, just occasional cleaning and annual checks are enough to keep it in top shape.
For larger-scale or heavy footfall areas, GRP can be re-enforced with non-slip surfacing or additional gel coatings for added wear resistance.
Client: Mr & Mrs Phillips
Location: Poole, Dorset
Service Provided: Removal of degraded felt and full installation of a GRP fibreglass roofing system on a rear dormer
Mr and Mrs Phillips contacted RV Roofing & Building after experiencing persistent leaks around the rear dormer of their family home in Poole. The existing felt roofing had visibly deteriorated over time and was allowing water ingress during periods of heavy rain. The couple were keen to find a permanent, maintenance-free solution that would also improve the aesthetics of the property.
Their key concerns were durability, visual finish and minimising future upkeep. With a strong preference for modern materials that could withstand the areas unpredictable weather and winters.
After a full on-site inspection, we recommended a GRP fibreglass roofing system using high-quality Cromar resins. Perfect for dormers – due to its seamless finish and excellent resistance to moisture and UV exposure.
We began by removing the old felt system and inspecting the existing decking (which showed signs of damp and softness). We replaced it with (OSB3) roofing boards, chosen for their moisture resilience and strength.
Our team then applied the GRP resin and fibreglass matting – in multiple layers, followed by a topcoat in a dark grey finish to complement the pitched tiled roof. Purpose-made trims were fitted around the edges for a clean architectural line and watertight seal.
The clients were delighted, not just with the immediate fix, but with the confidence of knowing their new roof would stand the test of time. Mr Phillips later remarked how the sleek finish of the GRP transformed the look of their extension and “made the dormer feel brand new again.”
At RV Roofing & Building, we don’t just specialise in flat roofing systems. At RV Roofing & Building, we provide expert leadwork services across Dorset and the wider regio -, with a reputation built on craftsmanship and care.

We work with all lead codes, from Code 3 to Code 8, depending on the location, size and requirements of your structure. All works are completed in line with Lead Sheet Association (LSA) guidelines, ensuring longevity and structural integrity.
Lead is incredibly low maintenance, but to maximise its lifespan we recommend the following;
Occasional inspections for movement or fatigue in large sheets
Clearance of debris in lead-lined gutters
Resealing or refixing flashings if disturbed during building work
Installing lead is a specialist skill and one we take pride in. Our roofers are trained in traditional lead dressing and fixings, using the correct underlays, laps, and expansion joints to avoid premature failure. We don’t cut corners with shortcuts or incompatible materials. Whether it’s a small flashing or a full dormer refit; we install leadwork with precision and skill, guaranteeing it will perform for decades to come.
Some signs that suggest a full roof replacement may be necessary include:
If only a small area is affected, a repair may suffice. However, if more than 25% of the roof covering needs replacing, Building Regulations require a full re-roof, and it’s often more cost-effective in the long term.
Costs vary depending on roof size, materials (e.g. clay tile vs slate vs EPDM), access and condition of existing structures.
As a rough guide:
• Tile or slate re-roof: £4,000-£10,000+
• EPDM or GRP flat roof: £1,500-£5,000+
We offer free site surveys and detailed written quotes with no hidden extras.
In almost all cases, re-roofing and flat roofing works can be completed without any need for you to vacate your home. We’ll ensure all areas are kept safe and as tidy as possible while work is ongoing.
Scaffolding is included in our quote and fully managed by our team. We erect and dismantle all required scaffolding using experienced, qualified contractors to ensure full safety compliance.
We provide comprehensive guarantees based on the system installed:
